Dominion Purpose Academy Prepares for Authorization as a Tuition-Free Charter School in Columbus, GA

Plans to open Fall 2025 for 4th - 8th grade students

COLUMBUS, GA - March 01, 2024 - Soon, we will learn the status of a new school coming to Muscogee County. The Executive Director and Board of Directors of Dominion Purpose Academy (DPA) are submitting an application for authorization to the State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia to become the city’s first tuition-free charter school. With plans to open Fall 2025, DPA will enroll students in 4th - 8th grade.

“As we embark on this journey, I am thrilled to lead DPA to cultivate the next generation of confident thinkers. We invite families to join us as we design a school where students thrive, exceed expectations and learn on purpose,” said Dr. LaTasha Jones Adams, DPA’s Executive Director.

Currently the school’s vision includes the following elements that were crafted alongside the community:

  • Relationships: Social Emotional Learning

  • Rigor: Design Thinking Model

  • Relevance: Community Involvement

According to Georgia Milestone Assessment*, 36% of fourth grade students read on grade level and 42% of eighth grade are proficient or above in English Language Arts. In Mathematics, 46% of fourth grade students are proficient learners and above while 36% of eighth graders are proficient or above. Dr. Adams and Dominion Purpose Academy are a part of the solution: which is why they hosted a Georgia Milestones preparation event at the Columbus library in March. They will continue to help families prepare for academic success.

Adams said, “DPA looks to close opportunity gaps and end educational inequity by cultivating students to become confident thinkers through relationship building, academic excellence, project-based assessments, real-world relevance, and community involvement.”

In March, DPA invites community members to family workshops and information events. Follow DPA on Facebook and Instagram to learn more about the school.
